Pat’s June Gardening Corner

Below is a list of things that you can be doing in your garden in the month of June:

  • Plant bedding plants such as, ageratum, celosia, coleus, marigold, portulaca, purslane, salvia and zinnia.
  • Mulch flower and vegetable beds to conserve water, keep beds cool and minimize weeds.
  • Fertilize annuals to assure continued bloom.
  • Check lawns for grub worms through July.
  • Watch for powdery mildew on crape myrtle.
  • Cut back reblooming salvias to within a few inches of their spent flower spikes.
  • Fertilize your lawn lightly.
  • Webworms begin to appear at this time. Tear their web to let predator wasps eliminate the population.
